These books are awesome, I love them! Not only because of Kopa, but because we learn more about Nalas cubhood, Simbas time in the jungle, the teen years of Mufasa and Scar, and we even learn more about Zazu and Rafiki! These books are a great way to explore the TLK universe beyond the movies and get more backstory on the characters. Have you tried searching Amazon or Ebay for these books? Brian Tiemann tipped me off about a site called Biblio, that`s where I got my set. It`s a site that sells books that are out-of-print or just rare and hard to get.

I have only read the first book ('A Tale of Two Brothers') and that killed my interest. It is too unoriginal and in some ways also illogical:
Kopa looks a whole lot like Simba, is pointed out to be bad bouncer like Simba was, his Dad was said to teach him to bounce just like Simba's did, he was all whiny about 'You promised!' related to the showing the kingdom from top of the Pride Rock just like Simba was - and the author even used a stampede scene for Scar's schemes and had him socialize with the hyenas just like it was in the films. The whole book is a total lack of imagination!
The buffalo stampede... In a way it was clever because Mufasa was willing to lay down his life to protect Scar from them whereas Scar would eventually murder Mufasa with another stampede. But still... Could've been more original. The biggest illogicness screams with how Scar gets his scar from a buffalo horn. That kind of scar just COULDN'T come from that. The scar is obviously from someone claw and a claw and a buffalo horn are two essentially different objects. A horn wouldn't cause such a sharp, perfectly lined scar. Not to mention how a horn of a running buffalo would anyway make a different mess than a fighting lion or other clawed animal.
Also, as the fact that those books were not written by Walt Disney Company's people and especially not by the first as in the canon film's makers, and the books being part of a contradicting book universe results in them being just profit fanfiction - doesn't help my interest at all. I want real sub-canon or at least official Disney creation such as the seconf film - not cheap fanfiction stuff by outsiders.
In short: Unofficial fanfiction stories which don't even bother to be creative and logic, don't fascinate me.
